3BL Enterprises is a Public Benefit Corporation that serves the business concept of the Triple Bottom Line. People. Nature. Growth.

Our History

Triple Bottom Line Enterprises (3BL) was established in the United States in 2015 and in Ethiopia in 2017. Since then, we’ve been working on a single goal: to get water to the homes of rural people. To do this, we’re working to make piped water affordable to households living $1.50 to $2 a day with a business model to support it all.
Our Approach

To achieve this goal, we engineer our water systems with a philosophy emphasizing radical affordability. We combine this with a network of rurally-based franchises who use their local knowledge to map communities, manage construction, operate and maintain the system. Lastly, we have a suite of mobile tools to support it all.
Our Impact So Far

So far, we have connected over 500 rural homes to water in Ethiopia. In doing so, we have created 10 permanent jobs and 10 temporary jobs for construction and connected 500 households to a tap stand at their house for water. We’ve also created four mobile applications for mapping (Flowius Survey), operation and maintenance (Flowius Manage), and payments (Flowius Pay).
Our System

Whether it's using our engineering expertise to drastically lower the cost of piped water systems, designing a business model to get it done, or developing mobile technology to support our work, we want comprehensive solutions to the problems facing the people we want to serve
Our Goal

We believe that the private sector has a crucial role to play in supporting the United Nations’ and Ethiopian government’s goals in the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) sector. To reach this goals, 3BL partners with Ethiopian Ministries and NGOs to attain the standards and goals set both domestically and internationally.
Our Team

While experience is important, we recruit team members primarily on their ability to embody a growth mindset. We then invest in opportunities for our team through consistent leadership and mindset coaching while nurturing a personal growth and problem-solving mentality as a part of 3BL.
